ReplyDeleteThe Hallmarks Of Cancer, Hanahan and Weinberg
0. the hallmarks of cancer include self-sufficiency in growth signals; insensitivity ot anti-growth signals; invading apoptosis; sustained angiogenesis; limitless replicative potential; tissue invasion and metastasis.
1. a. Each hallmark is related to a variety of oncogenes, thus a variety of strategies.
b. Cell cycle and differentiation depend critically on intracellular interaction—ECM and integrin.
c. Tumor is a complex tissue that includes not only cancer cells but also immune cells, fibroblasts and endothelial cells that help the expanding of whole tissue.
d. The process that normal cell develop into cancer cell is a cascade of steps.
2. a. What is the percentage of oncogenes in a specific type of cancer?
b. If the cancerous process is multistep, is there any finding suggest how one step would trigger another?
c. it’s indicated in the paper that the recruited fibroblasts and endothelial cells can drive the growth of the cancer cells, but is it also a double way benefit? How can fibroblasts and endothelial cells help the survival of cancer cells?
3. a. since cancerous characters develop in a chronic order, I would suspect the multiples steps of cancer development would interact with each other. Only in that way they don’t develop altogether (low probability anyway cause it involves multiple gene mutations), nor stay in one stage for too long.
b. I do have another interesting thought yesterday, but really cannot remember it…..
c. The cancer research is fascinating! It’s like a mini version of intelligent life like ourselves.
